3 - Hollands Ontbijt

C... Cheese

Dutch Breakfast: two slices of bread with Cheese and a glass of buttermilk

The Dutch typically eat sliced bread with three choices of toppings: dairy products (numerous variations of cheese), a variety of cured and sliced meats, or sweet or semi-sweet products such as jam, syrup (from sugar beets or fruit), honey, Bebogeen (a very sweet caramel topping made from sugar beets), Kokosbrood (a coconut product that is served thinly sliced like sliced cheese; also known as Cocosbread) or peanut butter. Another type of sweet toppings are the chocolate toppings; the Dutch have chocolate toppings in all variations: hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), chocoladevlokken (chocolate flakes) (both typically Dutch), and chocolate spread. Tea, dripolator coffee, milk, and juice are the most popular breakfast beverages. Breakfast may also include raisin bread.

A fresh, appetizing image....I've only tasted buttermilk in Austria and was a bit disappointed...it seemed rather sour & bitter. Perhaps it is different in Holland...more like the smooth, creamy drink I imagined it to be.

Nice..learning a lot about Holland from you. :)

Nice complimentary colors, though I prefer Indonesian rice gruel for breakfast.

I'm hungry ;-)

In America, we put butter on the outside, the cheese between the bread, and grill it! You can put ham or bacon in there too. The chocolate goes on the cookies or cake. Drink the milk and you have LUNCH!! Oh don't forget the tomato soup! Yummy!

...Now i'm hungry:) My father used to make butter at home, I'd love the stuff with hot chocolate cake just out of the oven, ahhhh good old times.

It's always interesting to see what people in different countries have for breakfast.
And that looks both healthy and tasty.

Echt oer Hollands, Maaike! V Jammer dat je tekst heel slecht te lezen is in deze serie, m.i. is je achtergrond te donker voor de zwarte tekst.
