The very slender crescent moon was only 33 hours past new in this photo, taken on March 27, 2009, shortly after sunset at Ottawa Lake, at the southern unit of Kettle Moraine State Park in southeast Wisconsin. I used a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 lens and a Nikon D300 to take the photo.
