On the way to Wollombi, one drives through numerous other small villages, all that have at some time or another, contributed to the livelihood and subsequent growth of the lower Hunter Valley. Places like Mulbring, Quorrobolong, Ellalong, Paxton and Millfield. Some of the industries apart from sheep and cattle grazing, have been mining and timber. Many of the mines and mills have closed down due to changes in technology and the importing of goods more cheaply from off-shore. There are still many farms producing sheep and cattle, and much horse breeding especially in the upper Hunter. So this is a glimpse of the various properties one passes by on the way to Wollombi.
