This is Newcastle

Discovered in 1797, Newcastle is the site of the second European settlement in Australia. A city rich in history Newcastle provides countless opportunities to experience our convict past. A stroll along convict built Nobby's Breakwall or a dip in the Bogey Hole which was cut into ocean rocks by convict labour in 1819. The views from historical Christchurch Cathedral on the Hill, are breathtaking. Newcastle is Australia's 6th largest city and boasts some of Australia's best beaches. Nobby's, Newcastle, Bar, Dixon Park, Merewether and Stockton Beaches are all within 5km of the city centre.
All six beaches are patrolled and offer families a safe place to swim and relax. The Ocean Baths at both Newcastle and Merewether are an alternative to the surf. Newcastle's spectacular coastline and pristine beaches can be experienced in a five kilometre walk along Bathers Way, from Nobby's to Merewether Beach. Newcastle is built around a large working harbour, the entrance being guarded by Nobby's Lighthouse and Breakwater. It is a very outdoor sporting city and attracts many recreational activities for all ages. Now that the BHP Steel Works are no longer part of the city, our clean air policy brings many people into the foreshores to cycle, surf, fish, boat or simply enjoy the harbourside restaurants and cafes in a perfect climate.
