Snow Flakes And Grass After a snow storm is the perfect time to take a drive in the country. The snow flakes cling to objects that stand in the flight path. When the sun comes up the country side is glistening be it trees or grass.

Waiting Fields In a few months these waiting fields will be turning black as the fields are worked for the planting. Shortly after planting the color will be turning to green as the seeds begin their growth. Again, in another few months it will change again as the crop begins to dry for the harvest. And then this color will come back again.

Blustering Winter Day If the wind hadn't been blowing hard it would have been a beautiful winter day. Even with the wind blowing it was a beautiful day, just a little on the cold side. The clouds were were moving fast which let the sun play peekaboo with the surrounding area at Lake Zorinsky. The day was so close to spring.
Empty Winter Park During the winter season flat parks are pretty empty. Plenty of squirrels and birds.
Cold Winter Park Winter is not over so this park will get a new blanket of white the next time it snows.
Under The Ice A lot happens during the year. In the winter the earth takes some time to rest. When you approach a pond during winter you can see some of what was produced and see it new life and color. Of course if you can see what is under the ice you shouldn't venture out on to the ice.
Cold Winter Day A gray overcast day and a nice little park full of walnut trees will both warm you and freeze you. The pond is partially frozen and there is a little pink in the sky as it is late afternoon. There is a little activity with some squirrels about and a lone jogger but it is mostly an abandon park in winter. This is just one of the many places you can find winter beauty on a cold winter day.
Winter Color Revealed Winter takes away so much color. The colors of spring, summer and fall disappears and a drab background appears. Then when it snows some magic happens. Winter color is revealed as the snow highlights the color that been put in place by us. The colors of playground equipment, park benches, houses, even the brown bush stands out. But the night lights on the snow is always a site to see.
Snow and Ice Winter in Nebraska and after a few days of cold and snow, the lake covered in a blue and white design made of nothing but snow and ice.
No Stopping A Fisherman Just a few days before this photo was taken this lake had no ice. A few days of cold the it is frozen over. Get a little ice and there is no stopping a fisherman! A day after this photo was taken and it is back in the 40s.
Cold And Lonely The holidays are over and the new year has arrived. The gloom of the cold winter days hangs over the park where all is quiet. Children should be sledding down the hills and skating on the ice on a fine winter day, but they are all back in school continuing their education. Maybe the park activity will pickup over the weekend.
_DSC9648.jpg A walk in the woods on a very cold winter day reveals last year's brush. When I see a lone brush in a vast barren snow covered landscape, I always get a little colder.
DSC09415.jpg A Iowa winter wonder land in southwest Iowa. Here a creek breaks the field in two and come spring and summer it will be full of life.
DSC09253.jpg Once winter arrives the landscape becomes more visible as the trees become bare of their foliage.
DSC09250.jpg The crops have been harvested and the trees are bare which allows for great viewing of the countryside. With the view being so open during the winter it appears the Iowa's winter crop is wind turbines. They are there in the summer also, but they just don't stand out as much.
DSC09216.jpg For me there has always been something magical about a winter country night. Get a little moon light with some snow and cold air, and it seems as if everything becomes more intense. The shadows are darker and the snow is lighter and it almost gives you an insight into living in a black and white world.
DSC09195.jpg This is one of my favorite places when there is fog or snow.
DSC09217_edited-1.jpg The rain finally changed to snow and over night the landscape was painted in white. The roads were slick but the view was beautiful.
SBPano.jpg The great thing about a snow storm is the beauty it provides.
DSC08855.jpg Kind of a cold windy day so no one was fishing or walking on the damn.
WalnutGrovePano.jpg Walnut Grove Park in Omaha Ne is always a favorite place for me to photograph when it a gray day out. Here is Walnut Grove in the winter just after our first snow storm of the year. Lots of open space between the trees, a pond, picnic tables and benches and a creek running through the park. There were a few people there, exercising their pets and the city crew plowing the road but for the most part it was just an empty beautiful space.
DSC08552.jpg Two days ago it was cool fall day. Today winter arrives with the temperature 19, very windy and snow. Soon the ice will start forming and 19 will feel like a heat wave.
DSC03752.jpg It is a snowing and blowing out, but I have never been a accused of being smart. I did stay out of the ditches.
_DSC4462.jpg Take a walk in the winter time and a whole different world stands out. Here we have the highways and byways of nature. While I didn't see the animal world you can tell it is close by. Maybe next time I will see some animals.
_DSC3731.jpg A little snow and a thin layer of ice, winter is beginning. It was all gone in a few days but it is coming at some point.
_DSC3722.jpg After the snow fall it warmed up to above freezing and the snow was melting and dripping from the red berries.
_DSC3710.jpg After a 24 hour storm warning, there is a fresh layer of white and the temperature has risen to a little above freezing. A calm day and a little ice makes a glass like lake which is providing a perfect reflection. Look close and you can see the mallards on the water by the shoreline. A little chilly but a pleasant outing.
_DSC8273.jpg Take a walk outside and you can tell that spring is coming! There are just small patches of past snows left in the shade. There is more and more open water appearing on the lakes and there is a little more noise from the birds. But for now you just have to watch really closely as winter turns to spring and enjoy the transition.
_DSC8001.jpg The snow has fallen and the air is still. From tracks in the snow you are not the first one here but with the quiet you are not sure if you are alone in this winter wonderland. The only way to find out is to take the path and see who and what you might meet.
_DSC8039.jpg A winter snow storm can cause many hardships when they come, but if one is safe and warm, they are a great thing to watch as the flakes come down and build up the many layers of white. After the storm is over and you can get out, there is a whole different beauty to examine and explore. One of the best places to explore is a thick woods. The dark and light stand out, the changes in landscape due to what is covered and not, and of course, it is always fun to see how high the snow piles up on the limbs and branches.
_DSC8008.jpg More snow over night just keeps adding to the beauty of a local wetland. Take a walk along here and you'll hear the crunch of snow under your feet, birds flying and squirrels running about. There is a lot to see if you are lucky so dress warm and stay awhile.
_DSC8050.jpg There is a little bridge down the hill that crosses a creek. Nothing special going on just a great scene that takes you back to your childhood when a bridge discovered just has to be crossed.
_DSC7994.jpg Just a nice little park in Omaha, Walnut Grove Park, and the plows had done their job and cleared the road around the park. However, there is no road under these tracks and it isn't a wrong path from a snow plow. My guess is it leads to Grandma's house.
_DSC7973.jpg A sunny day after a snow storm makes for a very bright viewing.
_DSC7550.jpg Freezing temperatures and a light snow turns this little park into a sledding wonderland. The trees provide for a natural obstacle course and increase emergency care for young and old. But today only the road department and I had ventured into this park. Even the squirrels were staying in their nest.
_DSC7545.jpg Very cold temperatures on a school day leaves this park very quiet and still. Not even the squirrels or birds were about. As you stand in the cold and look about the only warmth there is comes with thoughts of cocoa, children laughter and of course, a fireplace.
_DSC7421.jpg Christmas day, later in the afternoon and the sun is beginning to get low in the sky. I found a leaf with some color still left in it and the sun was just hitting in full force. It is officially winter but the temperature, sun and leaf color makes you think it is fall.
_DSC6962.jpg Traveling through country on my way to my childhood home it is very apparent that winter is here. The countryside is always so crisp after the first snow and the crops have been harvested. There were still a few fields of corn standing but the beans were out and for the most part all the activity of the past few weeks is at rest.
_DSC6937.jpg There is always something special about the first snow, especially when the sun comes out nice and bright. It may take a few days to get use to the cold but a view like this gets the people out!
_DSC6960.jpg All of a sudden the season has changed over night. The garden path is now covered but yesterday's fall flowers remain. Soon that color will be gone and all will be black and white with an occasional red cardinal for the bright color.
_DSC6955.jpg The water is starting to ice over in the wetlands and most of the birds are hidden trying to stay warm. It must be winter time.
DSC07372.jpg The ice is starting to disappear and some days are warmer than others so spring must be on the way.
DSC07393.jpg The mating pairs are starting to arrive and pick out their nesting sites for the new year. Spring is coming!
DSC07355.jpg It is the middle of February and 53 degrees out so what do you do? You take the family ice fishing. If you don't want to fish you can play on the ice.
DSC07225.jpg Just the beginning of a winter storm and everything is beginning to turn white. It should be a good morning to get out and shoot some photos.
DSC07229.jpg Visibility is greatly diminished as the snow falls and the wind picks up but it makes for a great day to be out and about with a camera.
DSC07148.jpg We have had some extreme weather this winter and this frozen drain pipe is showing the effects of the extreme cold.
DSC06873.jpg There is always so much to see at Heron Haven even if it is just a set of tracks in the snow.

DSC06836.jpg Christmas might be over for 2013, but the Old Market is still packed with people shopping, eating and meeting friends.
DSC06814.jpg This is the lighting support at the ConAgra skating rink in Omaha, NE.
DSC06810.jpg One of the great things in Omaha at Christmas is the ConAgra skating rink. It provides a great source of fun activity and collects cans of food.
DSC06710.jpg Winter comes to the Midwest and the wildlife starts leaving their trails to their warm homes.
DSC06585.jpg Father and daughter taking an advantage of a nice winter day and a frozen lake for a nice little walk.
DSC06584.jpg The winter weather is in full swing and so are the fishermen. There were a number of people enjoying the afternoon and more will becoming as the holiday approaches.
DSC06575.jpg A hockey game is coming to this area soon. The rink is almost ready.
PICT2148.jpg A walk across a lake with your pets can only take place on an early fine spring day.
DSC01442 as Smart Object-2.jpg Some times you just have to play with a photo to see what comes up.
DSC01442 as Smart Object-1.jpg There is nothing like a bright sunny morning after a late winter snow storm to have the beauty of mother nature come out. A long lane up to a farm house can really standout.
DSC01382.jpg The lakes are melting so spring is coming but it is still very cold and windy,as the ice indicates.
DSC01206.jpg One of those cold foggy days and you are the only one in the park. It is silent except for the sounds of the crows and you know just over this crest are two secret agents exchanging information and they both have guns.
DSC01210.jpg The path leads to a bridge and then into the fog.
DSC01187.jpg A lite snow the previous night and very cold temperatures equals a lot of empty parking spaces at the mall.

DSC04484.jpg A nice place for a cold winter walk without worrying about motorize vehicles running you over.
DSC04309.jpg The sun was setting and the gold color was bouncing off the tree limbs against the blue sky. By playing with the gray point setting it turned into something different than the normal tree, sunset sky photograph.
DSC04299_2.jpg This is the Winter Crop photograph with some experimenting with setting the gray point. Kind of liked the color and shape.
