Mile Hill Glenwood Iowa In the autumn it is just beautiful with all the color and the smooth surface of the lake tucked in among the hills. A favorite place to stop and take a few photos is Mile Hill in Glenwood Iowa. A lot of senior photos get taken here.

Loess Hills Sunset The sun is setting on another harvest day. From a loess hills viewpoint in Waubonsie State Park one can see plenty of dust in the air. Some from the gravel roads but mostly from the harvest. The sun is just catching the top of the trees as it crosses the valley and lights up the hill on the other side. Zooming in on the image there is a group of birds flying south, some dust clouds, a nice pasture in the valley and a couple of farm sites. Autumn is a beautiful time of year and if you are a farmer it is a busy time of year.

Fall Fishinbg Just outside of Glenwood, IA is Mile Hill Lake and in the fall it is beautiful. On this fine fall day there were several fishermen enjoying the day. Two of these gentlemen are out on the water some distance away. Just a great fall day!
Iowa Harvest The Iowa harvest is well underway. Most, if not all, of the beans are in, and a large amount of corn has been picked. However, the electrical harvest continues non stop. It is a cold cloudy windy day in Iowa, and while the field lays bear, the blades continue to spin adding to the electrical harvest.

Small Town Iowa Every small town in USA contain some very old trees that have stood the test of time. Every fall they put on a color show letting everyone know that while they are old, they are still magnificent!

Big And Small All Good Fun Big and small it is all good fun as the warm days of autumn begin to fade away. It looks like everyone was having fun on this day.

Autumn Sailing Winter is coming but there are still some great fall days to enjoy. This could be the last cruise of the season before the boat is pulled out of the water for the upcoming cold days ahead. Lots of folks enjoying the recreation area on shore as well. Just a little wind, bright sunshine, a cool day and a big smile at the end of an autumn sailing day.

Autumn Color Reflection On Water It is always a great time to visit Heron Haven and in the fall it can get really colorful. A bright sun and a shoreline make for a bust of beauty.
Color At Waters Edge It is always a great time to visit Heron Haven and in the fall it can get really colorful. A bright sun and a shoreline make for a bust of beauty.
Mile Hill In Color A nice little lake, some fall color and a nice warm day, what more could anyone want? A nap in the sunshine? A fishing pole and a little row boat? Maybe just a nice rock in the sunshine where you can hear the birds and look at Mile Hill in color.
High Bush Cranberry Crop When the High Bush Cranberry crop turns red fall is just around the corner. They provide some fall color and food for the local wild birds.
Autumn Beginnings August has come to a close and September has just started but Autumn is still a few days away officially. A visit to my favorite wetlands show autumn beginnings are underway.
Fall Day In The Wetlands A cool colorful fall day in the wetlands. Not a lot of activity on the water as a lot of birds have moved south or are in the process of it. It is kind of fun watching the leaves leave a tree and softly drop to the water. Just a day to set and enjoy.

Sumac Blooming When the Sumac is blooming, fall has arrived!
Aster Still some color in the gardens as the Asters are in bloom.
Fall Day Just a warm fall day with a little breeze blowing. I am just setting at the end of the boardwalk that is out over the water and staring off into the distance feeling the warmth and watching the limbs sway back and forth. It doesn't take long before I have abandoned reality and am just lost in a vision and action.

_DSC7905.jpg Autumn weather brings a multitude of color on the sunny days. On the gray days the color is still there you just have to get a little closer to see it. Here is the autumn color yellow up close.
DSC07881.jpg School is in session. Day care and preschools are in session. It has been raining for about three days. Nobody here, just me.
_DSC7901.jpg It October and the weather is turning cooler and the green leaves are beginning to change their color. Soon the trees will be bare but for now, all the colors of the rainbow will be showing.
_DSC7539.jpg Even in autumn the weeds look nice for a few days. Just don't grab the thistle.
DSC07887.jpg The sun hasn't been out for three days. Just a gentle misting with occasional rain for these three days. When the days get like this, there is one place I head to to get some black and white images. It is a rainy fall Monday so off I go.

_DSC7813.jpg A sunny and warm fall afternoon is a perfect time to go sailing.
_DSC7814.jpg Saturday afternoon in the fall. The sun is bright and the day is just warm. It is a day to be out but what to do. Some have gone to their college football game. Many other took advantage of the weather and had family picnics. Many were out taking family or senior photos in the late afternoon sunlight. But for some it was an autumn sailing type of afternoon.
DSC02690.jpg A cold November day and there are still some colorful leaves on the trees at Standing Bear Lake. The grass is green, the sky is blue and the clouds are white.
_DSC3648.jpg Just take a walk in a wetland on a sunny fall day and the sites just seem to magnify before your eyes. Each season has its beauty.
_DSC3481.jpg It is late in the season and winter is on the way but you can still find some fall color, but it is going fast.
_DSC3379.jpg It is that time of year when product of the last growing season is being harvested. Where during the summer you can't see past the fence line, in the fall the land begins to open up and you can see for miles. As you drive down the road you can see the combines, tractors, grain being moved and sometimes just a single wagon left in the field waiting for the next day's work.
_DSC3076.jpg While exploring Waubonsie State Park I found this tree in the process of turning red.
DSC02186.jpg Lots of rain swell these small Iowa rivers and the current moves from lazy to fast.
DSC02186_Color.jpg Fall brings out all the intense colors. In another week this will be a golden yellow and a week after that it will be bear. Then the wait for spring.
DSC02182.jpg Just a fall day in Iowa on a country dirt road. It isn't much used these days except for tractors, pickups and combines. If you look real close you can see a draft team coming down the road pulling a rack of hay. Maybe even you can see Grandpa rolling down the road in his 190? open car. You don't see much bridge planking these days but here it is still doing the job.
DSC02221.jpg Biking to school isn't often seen anymore in the larger cities. Here is proof that this still happens in the small towns and not a single chain among them. Kind of nice to see this. Brings back memories from days gone by.
DSC02189.jpg On an old country road there sits a bridge that shows how they were made before the modern era of concrete bridge building. Here everything comes together.
DSC02206.jpg It is the time of year when these weeds catch the sun light and catch your eye.
_DSC3119_20_21.jpg Waubonsie State Park is always a great place to see the autumn colors and a great sunset. The color was lacking a little and the sky was very clear but the view from atop the Loess Hills lookout point was very good. Several photographers were out shooting family portraits. There was a large family group singing hymns as the sun was setting. All in all a very good day.
_DSC2976.jpg Before the barren landscape of winter comes autumn big burst of color! With the leaves falling more sunlight is getting thru the canopy.
_DSC2881.jpg The summer growth, the low glow of sunlight and the fall colors, all come together for a few weeks.
DSC01161.jpg Trying to catch the autumn color along the Platte River and spotted another person out taking advantage of a great fall day.
_DSC6120.jpg Mahoney State Park has a very nice lookout tower for viewing the Platte river valley. Here is the Platte River on the right and Salt Creek on the left. In between these two waterways are tracks where I watch two ATV enjoying the afternoon.
_DSC6168.jpg As the evening sun goes down things start to stand out on the prairie in Nebraska. Windmills have been seen since the days of the covered wagon. The airplane contrails really come alive during the fall and winter months.
_DSC5965.jpg The wetlands brings a great variety of colors in the fall.
DSC06131.jpg If you get tired and decide to lean against be careful where you lean! You could be stuck there for some time.
DSC06117.jpg Bright fall days really brings out the color everywhere around you.
DSC06028.jpg Right outside my door is a very colorful corner. If you squat down it almost looks like a red moon in front of you.
DSC06024.jpg This little corner just pops every year when autumn returns.
DSC05674_2x3.jpg This group yellow leaves really stood out from the surrounding leaves.
DSC05718.jpg There is a street not far from me that runs along a park that contains yellow trees in the fall.
DSC05674_4x5.jpg A bright day in the deep woods and the sun points out bright yellow leaves.
DSC05613.jpg Sometimes something will just stand out and here this one yellow stands out from the surrounding area.
DSC05595.jpg Quite a view from the look out point over the Missouri river valley.
DSC05600.jpg To get out to the far point on the left you have to go right. The color and view is beautiful.
DSC05620.jpg Just one of the many sites you can see from a high point in Waubonsie State Park in southwest Iowa. And in the fall it contains multiple colors.
DSC05617.jpg Every fall you can find one colorful tree that stands by itself. It is the color of the leaves and the dark trunk and branches that makes everything stand out.
