Masjed-e Jameh mosque

Sanandaj / سنندج‎

The Masjed-e Jameh (Dar-ol Ehsan) mosque was constructed in 1813 by orders of Amonulla Khan. It has tiled twin minarets and 32 interior domes. Amonulla Khan was so pleased with the result that he reputedly had the architect blinded to prevent its repetition for any other patron.

Like a kaleidoscope! Well displayed. V. As for the story, despots have throughout the ages been reputed to have done this sort of thing to maintain the uniqueness of their commissions. Weird, eh, since it wasn't as if they had done it themselves. The ruler was not himself praiseworthy, other than for having had good taste. Pity we can't go back in time and tell him so.
