Firmware Version 1.1.1 changes the control algorithm of the focus drive, and enhances the drive’s responsiveness for more precise focus and adjustments. In particular, the new firmware enhances the AI servo AF capability of the lenses to track objects that move irregularly in sports events, such as soccer or rugby.
This firmware update will be performed by Canon Service Centers.
July 13, 2024 My Canon R6 camera and Canon lens EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM stopped functioning after I tripped in the parking lot at Mather Airport and my camera and lens fell to the ground. The lens Image Stabilizer would not function after the fall.

August 1, 2024 Received lens from Canon USA after repair.
Your product has been examined and it was found that the internal component did not operate properly causing the image stabilization feature to fail. The Rubber Mount, Rubber Focus Ring, Lens Mount Assembly, and IS Lens Assembly replaced by Canon USA for $629.38.
Product functions were confirmed.
Canon Japan recently updated their schedule for the end of official service life for Canon cameras and lenses. November 2028
