is the first full moon after the harvest moon, which is the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox.

Tonight's moon will be the smallest, farthest full moon of 2011. It lies more than 252,000 miles away, in contrast to the moon’s average distance of about 239,000 miles.

Nice shot & information I never knew about the harvest moon etc. We just return from a Spain trip where we were watching this moon grow each night & return home before the full moon. We gazed at this full moon last night through a hazy NJ sky and this photo adds a sort of completeness to the moon's journey we've tracked the last couple of weeks.
