We drove past picturesque Mondsee Lake and along the Danube Valley, en route to imperial Vienna. We had an enjoyable evening meal in a local restaurant, the Augustinerkeller. The following day we took a tour of Schonnbrun Palace, which was more to John's liking than mine. The remainder of the day was spent wandering around Vienna, revisiting sites that John remembered from a work trip many years ago. His amazing visual memory led us directly to places like Mozart's house, the State Opera House, and of course the hotel Sacher, where we indulged in their famous Sachertorte. After a rather unnecessary trip to the country to a restaurant more notable for its weirdness than its food or service, we returned to Vienna for a Strauss concert, which helped recapture the atmosphere.
