Hi Peter,

Great respect for your eye and technique. While looking at your photos, I thought about my dilema of wondering weather to sell my 10D for a 30D or get a 135 f/2? I also wonder if you would hint at saturation and sharpening, if this is what is primarly what is so dominant in your work. If you could respond in any way It would be great. Please send to Thanks in advance, and also if you think going to a Mark made a great difference in image quality over the 10D?

Hi Peter, sorry for the delayed response...

I was thrilled to see that a photographer of your caliber actually liked a couple of my photos. Your work is amazing and inspiring, and I thank you for taking a peek at my amateur shots.

I was perusing your galleries again, and I came across the breakdancers (which are amazing shots). I ran into a few myself in Grand Central Station (NYC) about two weeks ago. If you have time, you can see the shots here:

I don't think they're near the quality of your work...but you gotta start somewhere, and I've only been doing this for about 6 months, so I have much to learn.

Anyway, thanks again for the positive feedback, it's inspiring.

I always enjoy my travels as I venture through your images. Your beautiful homeland, the emotion of the people, the simplicity of the craft all merge into one medium in your work. You are quite talented. I treasure your input and influence on my work!

Thank you for taking the time to check in and leave me feedback and encouragement. It is special to have this tool to bridge the gap.

Anytime you and your family want to make a journey to another shore, you always have an open invitation.

You are truly an artist. You have many excelllent images, but your architectural shots in particular are outstanding. I showed the Warsaw images to my wife and we both agree your unusual composition makes for some great photos.

I will be experimenting with copying some of your ideas in my city, thanks for posting these.

You left me a message on re my Tuscany images. I stayed in San Quirico D'Orcia. All of the images I have on pbase were taken in that general area - all within an hour's drive of San Quirico. It's a very nice little town about an hour from Siena. Most of the images that you seemed to like were taken at sunrise, when the mist from the previous day's rain began to rise with the sun. The scenes change by the second as the sun rises. A number of these early morning images were taken overlooking the area that is called the "Belvedere" in San Quirico. The hotel I stayed at is called Residence Casanova. You can check out availability and prices at:

It isn't cheap, but all the morning pictures were within walking distance of the hotel. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I was back in Tuscany a month ago.

I do have a small budget, but I have no time as we are due at press on Friday. Can yiu email me urgent urgent so we can discuss what is and isn't possible?
Derek von Briesen06-Dec-2004 21:09

thanks so much for your really kind comments on my galleries.

far from being humbled, my friend, your images are just fabulous! you've been on my favorites list for a while, & i always enjoy spending time lost in your work! i really enjoyed the abstracts & the lithuania galleries.

judging from your name & content, i'm guessing you're in europe? lucky you! of all the places i've gotten to travel in my years as a surfer, i never got to europe. maybe someday soon. i'll show you mine (sedona), if you'd tell me more about yours!

i see you use the 10d. a great camera that i used up until three months ago when i got my hands on a good used 1ds, the cats meow right up until photokina this year and the new 1ds mark 2. ah, to dream. still, the 1ds is an unbelievable camera; the full size prints are just amazing.

we both have the 17-40 as well. that has turned out to be a great bargain of a lens and now, with full frame, it really turns on!

from looking at your abstracts, i notice you make wonderful use of apertures and depth of field. from a completely different perspective, have you ever considered any of canon great tilt/shift lenses? tack sharp focus from front to back for landscapes and even some great effects for macro. i can't wait to get my hands on the 24mm and in time, i can imagine having all three (45 & 90mm). one way us slr shooters can enjoy some of the advantages that view camera medium & large format shooter have always had.

excuse me, i ramble! keeping shooting great stuff,

Matt, I've just seen your work. It's absolutely stunning. Now I know why I need a good course... And no, I haven't noticed anything wrong with the quality of pictures from my "dee". But you can ask other 10D users on Cheers.
Guest 13-Jun-2004 13:24
RIT is amazing, its the top photography school in America, possibly the world, and claims to be the first college to teach photography (they have been teaching photography for 100yrs now). I have a website with most of my work, Im not sure if youve had this problem with the 10D files but if you zoom into the files to 200 or 300% in photoshop do you find as though you get blotchy geenish areas in the shadows?
Piotr Siejka13-Jun-2004 07:07
Hi Matt. Thanks for the compliment. I envy you the possibility of going to photography course...I've check the available ones here on Warsaw and most of them are for absolute beginers... As far as the 10D goes, I'm absolutely blown away by this camera. I love every bit of it. Haven't had it long(since Feb. 15th)so I'm still learning how to make the most of it. I'd love to see your work, Matt. Any chance? Cheers. Pete
Matt Emond 13-Jun-2004 00:15
Peter, your images, in particular the landscapes are wonderful, some of the best images I have seen come out of the PBase galleries. I live in New York and go to RIT for photography, are you familiar with the Institute? I also own a 10D, and was wondering what your opinion of the camera is? Again good work, and I hope to see more.
Gabriele Willig12-Jun-2004 10:10
Dear Peter,
I take this opportunity to thank you very much for all your comments on my pictures resp. galleries. I took a long moment today to study your work here on pbase and I am happy that in this way I had the chance to see your phantastic way to see the world through your camera's eye. Especially your peoples' pics are great. On some of your pics I got the impression that we have a similar idea of how to see details ...
I added your galleries to my favourites and I am looking forward to the pics you will share. I admire your work and send best regards to you.

Dear Peter,
Thanks for your comments:) I had a look through your Lithuania & Old Warsaw galleries. I loved the shot of the pier, it creates a great atmosphere. Your photographs of Old Warsaw are wonderfully colourful and evoke a great sense of the place and of course reveal the love you have for the town. Enjoyed them a lot.

Thanks for your nice comments. I took a lokk through your galleries and you have a real good sense of colour and form. Stockholm is not a very colou´rfull city so you have to work hard to find something different from ytlleov beige or ocra. Best regards Mark

Peter, keep up the very nice work. I guess we both saw celestial beings in your photo, how interesting. I am enjoying all of your galleries!

Peter, thanks for your comments on my galleries (glad you like the minimalistic gallery & that very photo -- they are my favourites among my galleries & among the photos in that gallery, too!). Glad you did comment, so that I was led to yours!!! I've commented on quite a few of those that I particularly like -- hope to see more photos here in the future! I'll come back to check out the newest. cheers, Vera. :-)
