One of the nice things about traveling up Highway 1 in California is the diversity of terrain.
We began in beautiful scrubby desert where the trees were dry from lack of rain.
The hills were all dotted with little bushes and trees just hoping for a bit of rain.

I didn't know Mom had such a love for taking photographs.
I think it's a relatively new thing for her.
I was so impressed with how good she is at it, and so excited to share this with her!

Rest areas have different concerns in different parts of the country, I suppose.

I knew this was going to be a great trip for photography when we were driving through a little town and I longingly looked out the window at a road-side park with a bunch of metal sculptures. I probably said something like, "Cool..." really quietly. Mom asked if I wanted to pull over and take some photos! Awesome Mom! We spent about 20 minutes, each in our own little world, seeing the sculptures in our own way. It was fun to share these pictures later that night.

I wasn't quite happy with what I was able to get out of this piece.
I love the colors, I love the shapes.
It just doesn't hit me with that "ooooooh... that's a great photo".
Any suggestions?

This one I'm more happy with.

I like finding the tiny bits that go unrecognized.
I like to look a bit more deeply and a bit more closely.
Sometimes it's the overlooked or the unexpected that makes the shot.
We all know this.
But it bears repeating.

When we left Irvine, it had been 90 degrees for several days.
When we stopped for lunch it was closer to 50.
What a change.

We might have been a bit chilly, but it was worth it for this view.
What a beautiful ocean I have the privilege to live near!

As one would imagine, there was beautiful scenery all along the way.
This section of the coast was near Hearst Castle.
We didn't stop at the castle, but we did stop here.
Gorgeous!
