I was assigned USArmySupport Thailand 9/71-3/72 and left as part of retrograde. Managed Army Depot support of "Operation Peppergrinder" long since declassified supporting troops in SE Asia. I lived at both Samae San and Pataya Beach , then a sleepy fishing village. Uto Pau Air Base endured sapper attack by Viet Cong in their attempt to destroy B-52s on flight line.
Oh how I wish that I could bring those days back. How much I miss the wonderful US Army personnel and special Thai friendships .

Eldar, as I was editing down, my pbase galleries, I noticed a comment by you on one of my pages.

Decided to snoop around your stuff. Very nice!

AND I see you have a knack for post processing and beer.

From your compositions, it's obvious that you're either a very good shooter or a frustrated art director like me!

Thanks Eldar for visiting my gallery on Geneva. You got some very nice galleries yourself, Germany, Italy, St. Petersburg, etc. Very artistic and inspiring.

Dear Eldar,
You are a fantastic photographer, truth to be told the best thing I like about your work is your ability to frame images perfectly, congratualations on your extensive excellent work.

Thank you for the honest comment, Eldar.
I must agree with you about the low quality of most shots in my "Lambe lambe" galleries, but people get angry at me if I don't publish their pictures, as bad as they can be. It's more of a Carnaval fun then a serious photography project.
Someday I'll publish a selection of my best Carnaval pictures and will invite you for some more honest criticism.
Best regards.

Your profile image is WOW! I see you have lots of beautiful images, and had many visitors...I am going to view again. I have some things to work out with my sites. I started out with Gourley Garden, and I might want to go back to that name as my root gallery name. Also, my user names Art2license, and Lizard Lady. I need to work out how to tie accounts together since I tried it out, I have my home account at this time as Lizard Lady. I think I am going to have to dig into the help pages.
Joseph Portelli 09-Feb-2010 09:34
Hi Eldar,
I just discovered your great Site and I'm amazed at your magnificent collection of photographs. The one that caught my eye was the picture named ,'Canadians Are Everywhere'! You see, I lived in Canada for 30 years, and now I'm back in my homeland, Malta. I will never forget Canada, and I congratulate you for your great picture taking. Have a good day & keep up the good work.

Hi Eldar,
this photo of rice with lobster is dedicated to you. We enjoyed this delicious meal
last week, prepared on an open fire. The Wine is an excellent catalan white Claudia from Vallformosa, Penedes, a bit fruity but not too sweet.

Hey, thanks for visiting me!
Only problem is, that I'm very limited compared to you!!!!
To say you're good would be a terrible understatement.
Ann Cleeves17-Apr-2008 12:39
Just to say I love the new look root gallery. It's really very attractive.
Just one doesn't give any hint, to unsuspecting pbase passer-bys who happen to wander in your direction, of the evil & madness that lurks somewhere inside. What a shock for such gentle souls! :-)
Ilene Nova11-Apr-2008 22:59
I read one of your replies to a critic (you wrote' "the most important thing that counts is an overall impression and message it delivers.") and want to state that I couldn't agree with you more. Those who call themselves photographic "purists" have a place in the art world for sure. But, to ignore the artistic possibilities of digital manipulation is ridiculous. Keep on creating Eldar!! I think you're a Photoshop genius with an extremely innovative mind.

Thanks so much for your comments on my gallery. Feedback from tremendous artists such as your self have extra meaning. I continue to visit "When Sinners Left Hell in 1321" as it is one of my favorites. The tribute to your fluffy friend is, I believe, the most emotion invoking site on pbase. You bring an incredible imagination to your photography that makes you unique. Please keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Hi Eldar,
Thankyou for your comments on my gallery. I thought I'd check out your own galleries and was blown away. Your work is absolutely beautiful - you really possess a phenomenal talent. Your pictures are works of art. Mine on the other hand are merely snapshots in comparison. To answer your question - I shoot only jpeg but use a polarizer and half grad on occasion. Keep up the good work - big vote from me.

I really appreciate your visit to my Russia gallery. As you can tell, I had a great time there, and learned much about Russian history and culture. I am so glad that I can bring back good memories to someone now living away from this beautiful country. Meanwhile, I had a great visit to your artistic and musical offerings. I loved your desert country images from Utah and environs. I just visited there last October, with a few good shots!

Hello Eldar. Just got back from a trip to State College. On that trip, i may have taken a few photos that you may enjoy. But in the mean time, thanks again for all your terrific comments on some of my favorite photos. I wish I had time to respond to them all, but one of your comments, in partcular, really pushed my buttons: because your remark really explains quite succinctly why the lady in the photo is smiling... I believe she does indeed a good button pusing session. All my best, Michael.
Michael Weinberg21-Jul-2006 12:44
Hello Eldar. Thanks for the comment on Louie's Bar ( ). Architectural delight? Let me see. Architectural style is turn of the century with all telephone wires strewn along side of buildings. Old fashioned window and door framing. Ornate columns and lots of brick work and masonry. Lots of really neat saturated colors and Coca Cola. Ah, I had to ruin the image. If I could have just replaced the Coca Cola with Smirnof then it certainly would have been delight. All my best, Michael.

Hi Eldar.

Thanks for commenting on the golf course at the Glen Oak Country Club. It really is a lovely golf course.... every body and who is anybody in Lackawanna County, and does not mind a minimum $15000/year fee for membership, belongs. As you might guess, that precludes me.... and I do not mind. Now to your point... though I do not usually like to make generalizations, the well heeled folks at Glen Oak seem to be part of the Viagra crowd as well, trying to get some extra curricular gratifcation, by getting a rise out of their putters, in an effort to put their balls in the hole. I truly think they all need either an anatomy lesson or a sex ed primer.

Now as far as to why I would post such an inane series of photos, documenting all 18 holes of his golf course in total boring detail... well, even for this photographer, bucks do pay the bills: $100/hour to take the photos (a mornings work) and to post the images, as low res proofs on Pbase. And now you know the rest of the story.

All my best,
Guest 18-Jul-2006 17:37

Hello Eldar. Thank you very much for taking the time today to comment on some of my favorite photos in my portfolio.... and doing something that almost nobody does.... read the comments.... and comment on the comments (imagine that!). In the process, I have discovered in your portfolio a plethora of exciting photos and descriptions that I must find the time to literally jump into, get immersed into like some fine Vodka I have in my refrigerator, or some very rich borscht! Oh you shall be hearing from me.... just hope you don't choke on some my remarks. All my very best regards, Michael.

Great Galleries Eldar...I'll be visiting again!

Eldar, thanks for your comments in my galleries. I think we share the same goofy sense of humor. The colors you produce in your images are fantastic! Molson's beer does nothing for me---as do all beers---but Irish cream is delightful.

nice cat gallary, I like the smoking cat...haha... a bit like godfather...

Eldar, I spent the better part of an hour marveling at your galleries today. All your images are so vibrant, colorful, and full of life. Your Photoshop techniques are extraordinary and most inspiring. You left me such a kind message on my photoshop funnies gallery some time ago, and it's been too long since I paid you a visit. I'm glad I did, and as the Governor of our great state once said, "I'll be back." Cheers! Alan

Thank you for your nice words, indeed I am very happy with my NIKON, "old style", I love the original shades of colour slide, maybe one day I will turn to digital, but NOT YET! I loved to visit your galleries and reenter the world of treasures of RUSSIA! I visited there three years ago, one of the most beautiful places in the world! congratulations and Regards, Helena

I promiced you some candid shots? Dude until like a week ago I didn't even know what a candid shot was. What's the fascination with them, is it not just taking a photo in poor lighting indoors to get effect?

Very nice galleries, Eldar. I love your use of colour through Photoshop. I wish I knew how you did it. I am fairly accomplished with Photoshop but perhaps not quite so flamboyant as you so I don't pursue the vivid shots as you do. Possibly I'm not too old to learn. Thanks again. 19-Apr-2006 09:13

Thank you for your kind remarks on my Cathedrals gallery. I am very happy to return the compliment and vote for your St Petersburg and Moscow photos. I have not yet posted my photos of St Petersburg which we visited in 2002. We are going again in July to sing in some concerts. It is a very beautiful city with so many wonderful historical buildings and monuments. Hope to post some more soon. Best wishes, ALastair

Eldar your galleries desplay a very unique style I find inspiring! Your Mexico Mayan gallery really impressed me as I have been there but did not 'see' it so well.

I am slowly pregressing from showing what i saw to showing an impression of what was there. On this learning curve you are my teacher.

David Rock02-Mar-2006 04:54
Hi Eldar,
Thanks for visiting my Japan gallery and leaving the wonderful comment. It inspired to devote more time to photography. After I returned from Japan in July, I was really burned out, and I haven't done much since then. One reason was that I felt that none of my pictures were that good, especially compared with those you find in the PBASE favorites galleries.

Today I spent some time looking at your galleries, and I think they're pretty fantastic. Wow! I really like your creativity.

Guest 26-Feb-2006 17:54
Hi Eldar,
thanks for inviting me to see your galleries--the drinking one is classic! I left a message about colours in your underwater one, but my computer signed me out for some reason so it came in as guest. So impressed with those pictures; i've been to that reef, used disposables but with really poor results.
thanks again for the invite, will keep checking for new pics!

Well you certainly are a character Elda! I don't think I've come across the likes of which i see before me. I'm not a massive fan of photo manipulation, but i have to say the manor in which you work on your images, tell me i'm seeing through the eyes of someone that loves life. That can only ever be a good thing

Take care, (i'll keep my eye on you)

Hi Eldar

I have been directed to your gallery by a friend. I am truly amazed at the work which is very much the direction I am trying to head in but have not yet quite got there.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat - we too have a great companion - a Persian called Gizmo. Beautiful cat but now ageing a little.

However, I love how you have placed him in the iamges - superb.

I also love the landscapes and in particular one on France of the church at sunset? Sorry I cannot remeber the name. Please may I ask what process you used for that shot it is awesome.

Perhaps you may be kind enough to drop me an e mail if you would not mind - would love to know what you did.

Fabulous and inspiring work

Thanks for sharing

All the best

Jarek M02-Jan-2006 22:47
Thanks for visiting. Look, you have a point. But strangely enough, “…pictures you do not like…” is the most popular gallery in my account. As you can imagine, essentially, it is a gallery for new images coming in. The title, I admit, it is a little provocation that… works.
And yes, I do delete some pictures every now and then.
As far as popularity is concerned, it is a mystery to me. Some pictures that I would not consider very good at all, end up with a high number of hits, some other are very slow initially and then suddenly get a surge of popularity.

Congrats on your galley. It seems to me you are a painter with camera in your hand instead of a brash and colours. I had you added to my favourites and have a closer look at your work some time in the future.

Vilone01-Jan-2006 14:47

Thanks for leaving a comment on "Candid at the Beach" 'NCGUY'. This gallery has been posted only since 9-21 and has 14625 hits. Not bad I would say.
I love your galleries. What a talent you have for using photoshop. I have paint shop8, but have not been able to figure out how to use it. I just want to erase the background on some pictures and put in a one color background. I have added you as a favorite, so I can keep up on your great work>>>>DON

I like your skills as a picture taker but, the photoshop stuff is overblown and very computer gernerated and cheesy to me. I dont like the photoshop stuff at all...

Hi Eldar,
Thank you for visiting my gallery. Mappy has quite a personality. I just looked at your gallery again and I am just as impressed with your variety of painting styles. One particular style I real love, is your water color, specially the " Pont-Du-Guard". May I ask you which program you are using. I have not succeeded water color. I find it most difficult to make it look real.

Thank you for your comment and your vote. As Dick pointed out earlier - you are the very first person who ever voted for one of my galleries. Thank you for that.

I wish I had your Photoshop skills ... :-)

Hello Eldar,

I found a message of yours on my site this morning, thank you for that. You must be the first who ever voted for me (I have plenty of visitors, but voting is not their strong side), so thank you for that. On the other hand, last time the Dutch voted (I'm from Amsterdam) something went desperately wrong, so ...

You do some amazing things in Photoshop, and I liked the animal shots a lot - as do others, I see. The tiger and lynx shots are great.

Well, I write from my job, so I ought to do some work. Bye, thanks again,

Dick Osseman.

Hey Eldar,

How great it is to find you here?!! Excellent galleries + great pictures. You're already doing great job with your Canon S45, even though it is not the best digicam, but it is already well above average for it's class and size, plus the MOST important ingredient for a good photo is the photographer's skills. Other than the EOS 10D, I was recently quite surprised by the photographic quality of the Sigma SD10, take a look at these galleries when you have time.

Have a happy lunar's new year

Thanks for leaving a comment on my Creatures gallery. To answer your question about the 10D. I love the camera. I also have the S45 to have with me in my purse and admit to finding it less satisfying since I've had the 10D. Now I've gathered a good set of lenses I feel I can take almost anything that comes along. Can't carry it with me though. Much too heavy for that. I haven't tried the digital Rebel but that might be a good entry into DSLR. Good luck, Ann
