Psychological aircondition

Ise, Japan

The Furin (lit. "wind bell") is a simple device to survive the summer heat in Japan. The bell has a stripe of paper tied to its clapper, so that the slightest breeze will ring it. By hearing the sound of the bell one knows that there must be some cooling wind, and that alone gives some relieve. It is also a healthy and environment-friendly way of coping with the heat (contrary to the many electric air conditions, which almost caused a collapse of Tokyo's electricity supply during the last week of August).

It must have been turned to the max position to get some motion at 1/250s. A very good control of the high contrast of the scene.
