Butoh dancer Akaji Maro talking about Araki Nobuyoshi in a documentary about the (in)famous Japanese photographer. Currently, an exhibition with his recent images is held at Galerie Westlicht in Vienna. Outside Japan (also in Austria) Araki is mostly known for his often shocking nudes, but he is a very versatile photographer who cannot be reduced to this one dimension. In Japan, he is a superstar, he is omnipresent in a variety of magazines and he has published over 350 (!)books so far. For me, he a.o. takes the best images of Tokyo, he is showing the Tokyo I know.
