These old apple and pear trees are very typical for my home region. In the past, each farm house had a lot of these trees and the fruits were used to make cider, which was the usual (slightly) alcoholic drink back then. Nowadays, collecting and pressing the fruits has become too cumbersome for most, and beer became the alcoholic beverage of choice. So the trees lost their original function, and unfortunately they become less every time I visit my hometown.
