The memorial is located on a tiny island at the mouth of the Contoocook River where it flows into the Merrimack River several miles north of Concord, New Hampshire. It marks the site where Hannah sought freedom from the indians that captured her and her nurse from her home on March 15, 1697.
The more complete story of her capture and later escape can be read at this link.

My thanks to Michelle, who works with me, for doing the research and found the links.
