it's not difficult to take pictures with background completely white actually.
this is taken on a cloudy day. basically i over-expose the picture (try +1 EV on your camera) with flash. when you take a picture against the sky (light source) the foreground objects (in shadow) will turn out dark, you use flash light to light up the foreground objects so that they don't appear entirely black. ;)
