The small village of Zermatt is in the shadow of the famous Matterhorn. In the summer, there are trains and gondolas that link to hiking and biking trails. the views are awesome. There are no personal cars in Zermatt, all arrivals are by train. We stayed at the Schonegg with rooms offering fantastic views of the Matterhorn. The hotel is above the city and to avoid a climb, we enter through a tunnel the take an elevator to the hotel. The first afternoon we walked through town. The second day, we took the Schwarzee gondola to the base of the Matterhorn. On the way down, we got off and had lunch. the next day, we took the train to the Gornergrat. At the next to last stop, we got off and some walked to the Riffelsee, a lake offering great views of the Matterhorn. At the top, there was a hotel and restaurant. we loved our stay in Zermatt.
