Control stands can be located on either side of the cab or sometimes both depending on who ordered them. the crew member on the ground directing the movement needs to know front from back so he can give proper directions to the engineer . hope this helps Rick

Always wondered why they put the "F" on the front of locomotives ??? It's not too hard to figure out which is the front end.
