It was a beautiful winter day, clear and mild.
I grabbed a camera bag and drove to the zoo, arriving for 9:00 AM opening.

All images are with my Pentax *ist D digital body and 18 - 55 mm zoom lens.
This body allows ASA settings as high as 3200, so I cranked it up indoors and captured everything with available lighting, no flash.

It was still a bit chilly for great apes to be outdoors, so the orangutan and silverback gorilla were in their indoor quarters.
The big sitting beast is a Takin, from the mountains of south central Asia. They are more closely related to goats than cattle.
The antelope are Speke's Gazelles, tiny things that mature at no more than 30 pounds.
