St Louis Zoo 121017

Sunday dawned cold but clear and dry.

We decided to make a little visit to the St. Louis Zoo. I was especially interested in seeing the new "Grizzly Ridge" habitat. It opened early this year and this was my first opportunity. It replaces the old historic "bear pits" and they did it right, with a long wall of windows to watch the two young Grizzlies in their comfortable new home.

I was carrying a Pentax *ist d body mated to that Pentax 28 - 90 mm lens that I recently picked up at Goodwill for three dollars.
All shots were hand held with available light.
The shots through the bear windows were a little tricky to adjust before posting, since the heavy duty glazing cuts some contrast and gives the view a bit of a greenish tint. But the windows did allow for an up close unobstructed experience.

No, the bears were not fighting. They are still large cubs, playing the games that bears play.

As you can see, no snow here, despite the cold.
