I found this camera (cheap) at a flea market decades ago in rather clean and working condition.
It was made by Carl Zeiss Jena in 1955 in the suburbs of Dresden, East Germany, during the Communist years. The design is stark on the outside, but rather complex and high precision on the inside.
This model lacks a built-in rangefinder, but features a coated Zeiss Tessar 50mm f:2.8 lens in a T, B, 1 - 750 shutter. Twisting the entire lens / shutter assembly a quarter turn advances the film while cocking the shutter.
Happily the mechanics all work well, since I suspect it might be a nightmare to take apart and reassemble.
The Zeiss Tessar lens is legendary in its quality and performance. The Jena area has sand deposits that can be used to make glass of unparalleled light transmission.
The accessory shoe on top is not original. I glued it on myself to allow for use of external rangefinder or flash and can be removed easily.

I think this is the third time I have had the camera out to use in the years I have owned it.
In late September I loaded it with a roll of Kodak 400 color film and exposed it at home and at a local cemetery. This area was settled by German immigrants during the Nineteenth Century, and so the German names and inscriptions on the grave markers seem fitting for a German camera.
All images are hand held and with existing light.

The advance mechanism felt just a bit ratchety, probably because of the precise complexity of the moving parts, but the camera delivered a full roll of images.

Last weekend I home-developed the film with my usual Caffenol chemistry, which renders any film monochrome. The negative strip scanned easily.
