Winter wants to linger as temperatures struggle to match the calendar this year, an anomaly of sorts and it has been a struggle for local plant life to come awake for Spring.
The sun was shining yesterday (April 5), and I went out looking for signs of Spring. And I saw signs of hope!
First stop was our front garden at home, then I drove down to the Meramec River, the Greenway in the Old Town Fenton side, then the Sunset Hills side.
There was recent flooding or near flooding but the river is now dropping to tamer levels.
This was a test of a lens, a birthday gift from Glenn Miller in Oregon.
The lens has terrific range and is relatively light for its power.
I was happy for how it performed in the "macro" range.
Zoom and auto focus proved to be a little cranky, but a little manual persuasion helped out.
Before going out I bench tested the exposure accuracy of the Pentax K10 D with the Sigma lens and and it seemed best to dial in an extra 0.7 stop for a good photo gray.
With that setting, most images needed minimal tweaking before presentation.
All shots were hand held and available light.
It was windy.
The only image with any significant cropping was with the pair of figures in 1332.jpg. They were across the river from me and at least 100 yards away.
There are some big clams living in that river.
