Pentax Spotmatic at Powder Valley 100408

The Pentax Spotmatic, introduced in the early 1960s, was one of the first Single Lens Reflex 35mm cameras with through-the-lens CdS metering. The lens mount is 42 mm universal screwmount with a single plate-and-pin link between body and lens, and metering must be done in stopped-down mode.

A friend of mine, Todd, is a very gifted photo artist who has worked almost exclusively with digital equipment. I offered a group shoot with him as a film based experience, and he was very willing.
From my collection, I selected two Pentax Spotmatic bodies, and made up two kit bags with a comparable selection of prime focal length lenses in a range of sizes, and accessories to go with it all.

We met at Powder Valley Conservation Area in Kirkwood on the morning of a perfect weather day. Todd saw for the first time the Spotmatic outfit he would work with that day. We went over all the items and features in preparation, loaded film, then hit the trails. Conditions out there were ideal for moss, fungus, and lichens. Shot several rolls of ASA 200 print film, two similar cameras with two individual photographers, then to the train station area of downtown Kirkwood to finish off the shoot.

Here is a selection of my own shots. Most were shot using a Super Takumar f:1.8 / 55mm lens. Extreme closeups were aided by a screw-on front filter, diopter value +6.
A few of these shots were with a Vivitar Auto Telephoto f:3.5 / 200 mm lens.
