Sandhill Cranes and ACG Conference 101814

During this year's Argus Collectors Group conference at the Argus Museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan, we had a field trip to the Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary near Jackson, Michigan, to see the sandhill cranes.
It was cold, damp, dark, rainy.
The main viewing area had no cranes visible, but we got a tip that several hundred were gleaning the field at a farm a few miles away. We drove over there in caravan.

I was shooting with a Pentax K100D digital body, and a Vivitar manual Macro Focusing Zoom lens, 28 - 200 mm range, f:3.5 ~ 5.6.

The light was dim, so I cranked it to ASA 1600 with Aperture Priority mode, and shot mostly with the aperture near wide open. The cranes were on the move and things happened quickly, so I shot everything hand held.
