Argus Model 21 at car show and other places, October 2011

The Argus Model 21 Markfinder was released soon after the end of WW II. It represented a major new direction in the company's designs.
The remarkable viewfinder incorporates characteristics developed during Argus' wartime production of sighting devices.
Shutter has speeds 1/10 through 1/200 and B.
Lens is f:3.5 / 50mm with well coated optics. It is removable with a unique screw mounting, but no other lens options were ever offered.
Focus is by guesstimation, from infinity down to something less that 3 feet.
There is a hot shoe for flash, and a switch to choose either M or F type bulbs.

This has been one of my favorite Argus models.

This example came to me in non-functional condition. Someone had forced the film advance, and as a result, the internal spline connection between film sprocket shaft and exposure counter shaft was severely damaged, resulting in an inability to wind and cock the mechanisms.
My attempts to repair the weakened parts failed. But I was able to bring the camera back to life with the generous donation of a new set of shafts from an "Argus lover" friend in Michigan.
The front leatherette coverings did not survive the removal necessary to allow for disassembly of the body.
After final reassembly, I decided to leave the camera without front coverings, with the glossy black enamel finish giving it a "business like" appearance.

With camera repaired, I was itching to shoot with it.
I loaded in a roll of Walgreens ASA 200 film.
This weekend I started off with a nice little local car show, proceeded to shoot a bit in Old Towne part of Fenton, then finished it off at Pleasant Valley Nature Preserve in High Ridge.
The autumn season is underway.

This Model 21 was, as they usually are, a joy to work with. The three element lens is a sharp one.
