Mid December and Minolta Dimage Z1

Fifteen years or so ago this was a popular type of configuration for digital cameras, lightweight SLR designs with fixed lenses.
Then things happened in the evolution of camera bodies.
Megapixel counts have grown exponentially.
And compact cameras got much much smaller, while higher end SLR bodies grew larger and more robust.

But this Minolta Dimage Z1 does have some attractive attributes.
It stores images on common SD cards and is powered by ordinary AA batteries.
It is somewhat "ergonomic" and easy to hold steady and surely in one hand.
The 10x optical zoom is impressive, and I made some good use of it in the samples below.
The ability to switch between rear screen display and view through the eye level finder works well.
And although only 3.2 megapixel in resolution, the images are clear, sharp, and pleasing.

Sunday December 15 the first of two successive snow events moved through our area. It came down thick for a few hours and stuck, making travel a bit problematic.
The next day the second storm came through, steady for several hours, and added to the totals, making a real mess out of commutes throughout the region.
We chose to stay home through it all.
Today the snowfall stopped and the skies turned blue, and although it stayed very cold, the sun did a lot of work to help clean off the cars and roads and driveways.

The little Minolta was put to work all three days. It proved itself both indoors and out.
