King Regula Mastra V 35 with Past Peak Fall Color

The Mastra V 35 is a cleanly made 35mm camera from King Regula of Germany, 1958. I think it is very elegant in its lines and feels good in the hands.
I have used this camera before, a few years ago at the site of Times Beach, Missouri, and wanted to give it another go. The first use is documented in one of my earlier Pbase galleries.

So on Saturday, November 9, I loaded it with a roll of Kodak 200 and went out to see what remained of fall color here around High Ridge, Byrnesmill, and House Springs area. I shot the film side by side with a Pentax digital SLR.

The results on film came back today from the lab in Parsons, Kansas.

Images were mostly clear and clean with good center sharpness.
However, two issues were evident in the negatives and scans:
There was softness in most frames toward the corners and edges.
And there was significant overlap of image area with several frames.
I believe both issues can be explained as film pressure plate failure. When I first acquired the original pressure plate was missing. I fashioned a new one by modifying the plate from another camera. Apparently my new plate did not work properly in tricky areas at the ends of the image area and at the film sprockets. Maybe someday I can come up with a new plate that will work better.

With a bit of cropping here and there and a bit of resizing, I was able to salvage what you see below.

Another recent gallery on my Pbase account shows results of the same outing using the Pentax K110 D.
