Sears KS Super and Christmas Day 2014

The KS Super was made for Sears in the early 1980s by Ricoh and was representative of a time when manual focus SLR cameras helped define 35 mm photography. It featured a vertical running metal shutter with a fully electronic shutter speed system, aperture priority mode, and battery dependent. The lens mount was Pentax K Mount compatible, allowing use of a large assortment of available lenses.

I acquired this example, with 50 mm lens, at the flea market for cheap. After I replaced foam light seals, I had a good clean working camera.

Christmas Day I loaded it up with a roll of fresh Fuji 200 print film and tried it out. First frames were exposed outdoors at home, then I drove into Old Town Fenton and the banks of the Meramec River. End of roll was finished off at home at the Christmas Tree. All images are hand held with available light.

Camera and lens proved capable. I enjoyed the big bright viewfinder image and the nice soft release shutter button.
