January Thaw 2018

A day or two of rain washed away the last remnants of our Christmas snow.
Then today the temperature climbed into the upper Fifties on a Southwest wind.
We will see a return to the brutal cold within a couple of days, but for now this January thaw is welcome.

I felt the need to get out, and so walked the woods at Claire Gempp Davidson area on Sappington Road,
carrying a Pentax K110 D digital body coupled to a mid range zoom.

I liked the look of things, soft mid-Winter light on what was left behind by Fall, now exposed without the snow.
The colors were subtle yet striking, and the theme seemed to be orange and green,
particularly with the bright green mosses and a few scattered holly trees.
Months of drought have shrivelled the wetland pond, much exposed bottom and a delicate crust of ice.
