When local and regional film developing labs closed, the only commercial labs remaining involved mail order, and long turn around times. So this year, in order to continue to enjoy use of my film cameras, I decided to learn how to develop at home. But many film developing chemicals can be nasty and dangerous.

I learned about Caffenol processing. Its recipes use easily available and safe household ingredients, such as instant coffee, vitamin C, washing soada, and table salt. And no darkroom is needed, just a changing bag and a light tight developing tank.

Caffenol treats all films, including color emulsions, as monochrome. I digitally scan or rephotograph the resulting negative strip and then work with my computer to prepare my final images. I add a sepia tint in software, because I prefer the look over black and white. My final prints are printed digitally on archival papers.

Here is a collection of my Caffenol photos currently available. Mostly, they are printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I can print them on paper sizes from 5 x 7 inch to 13 x 19 inch. All prints are signed and numbered in editions of no more than 200.
