I have long been a fan of the 50mm Cintar lens that was standard with the Argus C4.
To show how good it can be even in a more contemporary context, today I came up with a plan to adapt one to work with a digital camera body.

The core of a lens from my spare parts bins was extracted from the focusing and mounting portions of its assembly.
I drilled a hole, 1 and 1/4 inches diameter, in a plastic body cap for Pentax K type mount.
When the Argus portion was inserted into the hole, I discovered that I could attain perfect infinity focus using a couple of items from my small plumbing parts bins as spacers between the collar of the lens and the front of the body cap. Yes!
By allowing some slack in the mounting, I could focus to some extent by holding the lens all the way back into the camera body cap for distance shots, and pulling it a little forward for focusing closer subjects.
The arrangement reminded me a bit of the two-position focusing of an early Argus Model A.

It was an overcast but mild day, and I stepped out into the backyard for a few test shots.
Camera was set to ASA 800, +0.5 exposure compensation, and AV mode.

This lens was in my spare parts for a reason. There is a little dust between the elements, and the front surface glass is etched with a pattern of small scratches.
Despite the imperfections, I found results rather pleasing and promising.
I do think I will take this out into the field some day for more use.
