This Argus C3, serial no 770443, was purchased recently online. I did not install the brown leatherette covering, that was done by a previous unknown owner.
However, there were some fairly serious issues with the camera as I received it. The rangefinder distance scale dial and window were missing. And rangefinder focus and lens focus calibration were all out of sync. Even with every attempt at adjusting the lens and also trying a different lens from a different camera, it would not focus correctly at the film plane within the normal range of operation. I had to conclude that the camera body itself was out of specs for some reason. With all the adjustment that I could manage, I ended up with a camera with accurate focus, but could not move past the 3.5 feet mark. But that is not so bad.
After adjustments and cleaning and testing and lubrication, I was ready to give it a test.
With a beautiful weather day last weekend, I loaded up with a roll of Fuji 200 and headed to the Museum of Transportation.
Results were ok. Not the best I have seen from an Argus C3, but mostly acceptable.
Testing was all with available light and hand held exposures.
I am including portraits of the camera from both "before" and "after" I worked on it.
