Monday August 30 the plan was for me to get up early and be at Kirkwood Station when Big Boy No. 4014 came by on its tour through the American heartland.
However, real life intervened, and I did not fulfill my promise.
Having missed the big event, I felt that I had to make amends with a visit to our own Big Boy, No. 4006, on daily display at St. Louis County's National Museum of Transportation. Yesterday, Thursday September 2, was a good day and I paid my visit.

Camera body was a Pentax ist D digital that I got in auction recently for about sixteen dollars, a good find. The lens that came with it had fungus, so I set it aside.
For my trip to the Museum I mounted an older lens, a TAKUMAR-F ZOOM from the age of autofocus film cameras, f:3.5 - 4.5, 28 - 80mm, with a macro setting at the 80 end.
Lens did well, nice and sharp.
Camera body has good autofocus but will not work correctly in manual focus setting. Auto exposure is sometimes off.
But it proved itself not without some capabilities.
