Yesterday a huge Pileated Woodpecker showed up on the tree just outside our kitchen window. I did not have a suitable camera close by to capture any images before it moved on.
So I thought, maybe I should keep a camera with long lens readily available upstairs for such occasions.
Today I tested out a couple of long lenses.
My 500mm mirror lens worked sort of okay, with close focusing capablility, but the images were not all that sharp, especially when hand held.
Then I tested out this AUBELL 400mm with T-Mount, connected to a Pentax istD body with P/K Mount adapter.
Images were much much better, and I think it will be a "keeper" waiting for opportune moments.
Minimum focusing length is 22 feet. Magnification on the digital body can be thought of as 12 X.
These test shots were all hand held, so it is a good steady lens.
