Argus CR-1 with Caffenol

The Argus CR-1 was a rather solid 35mm SLR camera made by Chinon in Japan and imported by Argus in 1975. It was fairly expensive, listing for $279,95 with lens.
Features included the Pentax / Universal m42 screwmount system, match needle through-the-lens metering, shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/000, and a self timer.

This example came from online auction, very very cheap. I gave it a good cleaning, reglued some leather, and replaced light seals and mirror bumper. Everything seemed to work including the meter (about one stop off), except for the film exposure counter. I judged it was not worth the trouble of removing all the top parts to get at the mechanism. When the film stopped advancing, I was at the end of roll.

I loaded it up with a roll of Kodak 200 print film and gave it a little extra exposure in anticipation of Caffenol developing.. We started out at the Sculpture Park but that excursion was cut short by circumstances. So I finished the film off at home, outside and inside. All exposures were hand held with available light.

I developed with my usual recipe for Caffenol, which uses only safe household ingredients. Filmstrip was scanned with my Epson and tweaked in ACDSee.
