Argus A-5 at Transport Museum

The Argus A-5 is probably not so well known among collectors. Introduced in 1963 and made until 1966, it found itself in direct market competition with Kodak's new Instamatic format cameras.

I purchased this one online. It needed new foam seals, which I did. Shutter was frozen, but responded to a little solvent applied through an opening. Light meter is dead, but after "decoding" some of the settings, I was able to operate it with manually set values.

Film test was at Museum of Transportation on Barrett Station Road.
Focus and sharpness were good, color rendition was good.
There was just a bit of vignetting in corners and a bit of extra brightness in center of frames, but that is to be expected with a two segment aperture control coupled with a leaf shutter.
The only light leak evident was near the end of roll.
The camera was in general pleasant to use.
