The ACG Mid America St. Louis Gathering 2016 was "officially" over end of day Saturday July 9, but Richard C. lingered in the area a few extra days.

Tuesday morning we visited the historic Kirkwood Station, built in the 1880's on the MoPac line and still used by Amtrak.

From there we drove down into eastern Jefferson County to see the museum at Mastodon State Historic Site. It was here in the bone beds that it was first proved that mastodons and humans coexisted, with a "Clovis" type point embedded in a mastodon skeleton. There are several miles of trails in the park, but we elected not to walk them.
