Extract from the notebook:

...Slept in (Sunday). Metro'd out to La Defense, as surreal as I remember. Croissant at Pret a Manger (still excellent for grab-and-go); walked back toward the city taking photos. Metro'd from Esplanade to St Paul. Lunch break in Jewish quarter. Wandered up toward the (closed) Picasso museum; walked toward Place des Vosges and stopped by Carnavalet museum - impressive mansions, interesting Paris artifacts. Walked through Place des Vosges and then to the Place de la Bastille.... Many restaurants closed on Sunday; found excellent Chinese restaurant (Tse-Yang) open - hot and sour soup, wonton soup, Szechuan chicken, minced veal in spicy sauce - all very good...
