Acmena smithii

Te Teko, New Zealand

An Australian shrub/tree, family Myrtaceae. Very likely to be hardy in Cornwall, not sure about how far east and north it could be grown. Very dense foliage, like a cross between Ficus benjamina and a Camellia. Responds very well to pruning, shade tolerant and has been long popular as a hedge in Australia aand New Zealand. Easy from seed (produces panicles of white or pink or mauve berries every year), in fact they self-sow on bare soil.
