A former royal palace with a rich history.Situated at the Meir,Antwerpen's most famous shopping street.
J.A.van Susteren ,a rich merchant,asked the architect,J.P.van Baurscheidt to design this city
palace and it was constructed in the midst of the 18th century.
Acquired by Napoleon in 1811.After the defeat of Napoleon the Dutch king Willem I took over the palace.
When Belgium became independent the Belgian kings used it for receiving important guests coming to Belgium via the port of Antwerpen.
From 1960 the palace had a cultural destination and was transferred to the Flemish community.
Restauration started in 2001.
