Under the Sun and Moon

I printed this piece from a Locust wood block. Locust is one of the stronger and rot resistant woods of the forest. Often one will see large shelf mushrooms and gnarly holes in a Locust trunk. The drawing I used to create this print was done at Ocracoke NC in the outerbanks. The knot work and texture of the wood block exposed two shapes that looked to me like the sun and moon. Those curious times each month when the moon and sun share the sky are always pointed out by someone saying, "look at the moon". I love how the natural world reminds us to question and reflect our place in these moments.
