To celebrate the birthday of this illustrious Tennessean, there are "re-creators" (much like Civil War re-enactors) who gather at David Crockett State Park near Lawrenceburg. This year's celebration was August 12-14. Pre-1840's costumes are required by participants. Some even create tents as they were made during that period and spend each night in them. Traders and craftsmen are welcome. Interesting activities include black-powder shooting contests and hatchett throwing. Crockett was killed at the Alamo in 1836, which is the basis for the pre-1840's requirement. AND...participants love having photographs taken.
