You've probably seen this image before - a classic Cades Cove scene from the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. I decided to see what could be done with it as part of my ongoing color to B&W conversion experiments. This is one version - start with a good conversion and add a bit of grain and tint. I think maybe the grain is too heavy. You could spend an entire day with a single image exploring the various contrast, grain, tint and other options - and each result would be recognizably different (and appealing) so how to choose just one?? The options are similar to what I understand the film-folks went through with different film types, developers, papers, and dark room techniques - except now it's not quite as toxic.
