4/25/08 - Redbud Montage

Working with the complementary colors again. They provide a real contrast.
This is a montage made up of one normal shot of this scene overlaid with a 10 shot multiple exposure. The multiple exposure shots were made "tightly" - just a little camera movement. The idea was to "pop" the redbuds by making them slightly larger than life otherwise they tend to get swallowed into the background. By making the buds larger by moving the camera around we get a highly visible magenta color which - true to warm colors - appears to advance toward the viewer while the cooler complementary colors recede.

Very beautiful; very subtle effect; gorgeous colors. I love where you're going with this approach, and wish I could see a large print of this image.

But, one question... You wrote re Dogwood Cascade, "The D300 is a magical device - in camera overlays and in camera multiples all rolled into one." And I love it, too. But since it's limited to 10 frames for a multiple exposure, with Gain turned on or off for all, how are you then getting an in-camera overlay of the straight shot? Or, did I misunderstand? Maybe I need to re-read the manual. ;)

Excellent image - really interesting effect with the multiple exposure, the colors definitely pop.
