2/6/08 - Infrared Mountains

I just had my original DSLR, the D70, converted to IR after getting the D300. (I'll use the D70s as a backup for the D300, but feel it's about due for a trip back to Nikon after about 50K shutter releases; that's when the D70 gave out.)
Spent the day in the Blue Ridge mountains and tried about 100 IR shots - most experiments of various types checking out exposure compensation, white balance and the like. It's an absolute joy to shoot IR just like regular photos - instead of the screw-in opaque IR filter with several second exposure times that I used for the past several years.
I did this shot with and without the lens flare (without by shading the lens with my hat). Decided that the lens flare pointing down on a diagonal to the subject area was OK.
60 degrees (F) on Feb. 6th; just like spring. Heavy clouds most of the day with sprinkles. Perfect.

I like the incorporation of the lens flare. Glad to see this. I have an image to process that I want to use the lens flare as an "artistic" element. Nice tone and composition.--Rene

Great texture!! My D70 is waiting in the wings for me to do the same thing! -BJ

Really interesting image - great texture, the lens flare adds a diagonal pull, yet it's overall a little unearthly due to the infrared exposure - very cool.
