Went to Shenandoah National Park today expecting the fall color to be gone. Wrong!
That is snow/ice on the right side of the pine and the trunks of the trees a little further down the mountain side. A cold front came through while we were there and we saw everything from rain to sleet to snow, heavy fog, sun, wind gusts over 40 miles per hour (the high winds were the only constant the entire day along with temperatures just below freezing - and the wind chill was unbearable if you forgot gloves, etc, thinking it was still a way to go until winter; the mountains will always surprise).
Once again I chose the day for our regular outing based on the promise of inclement weather. The masochist photographer strikes again. Even for me, it was a bit extreme at times. It's impossible to shoot when a 40 mph wind is blowing a rain snow mixture right into your lens. I eventually located a pair of gloves stashed away in an old backpack that I forgot I had in the car otherwise I'd have packed it in.
