11/2/07 - Autumn Explosion

Yesterday's zoomed image PAD was fun, so I went out this morning to try more zooms. This one is a bright red tree isolated against clear blue sky. I framed the tree so that the was just a little blue on the left and right and more blue at the top. After framing, I release the shutter and zoomed in (to 70mm using an 18-70 lens). A circular polarizer at full strength (sun was 90 degrees to my left) helped to pop all of the colors.
The bright conditions didn't allow as long of a shutter speed as I normally use - too lazy to put on a neutral density filter - but it worked out OK. Here's the tree - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/88293504

That is fun! Another reason for me to upgrade. (I have to walk or run into a shot to effect a zoom during exposure, which actually adds its own interesting effects...)
