12/18/06 - The 9th Day of Christmas Cactus

Ultra-macro - about 1.5X lifesize. I'm glad that this is the 9th of 12 days because it's getting a bit boring. Maybe tomorrow I'll sneak in a poinsettia and see if anyone notices.
I tried to get the tip of the magenta colored piece and the front of the red blossom above it in the same plane so that they'd both be in focus with everything else as a blurred supporting background. Used a Really Right Stuff focusing rail to get the alighnment and distance right - easier when you can adjust in fractions of a millimeter as a focusing rail allows you to do.
Looked much nicer through the viewfinder. Why is that?

Nikon D70
2s f/22.0 at 105.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto
